Story Starters

Select a category and read the story starter. When you're through, write your own ending to the story. Be creative!

  1. Mystery:
One day you and your best friend are invited by your uncle to go fishing in the ocean. As you are holding your rod, the fishing line tugs! You reel in what you think is a large fish, but it turns out to be a barnacle-covered black box. The box has markings on it. What does it say? Where did it come from? What was it used for? What are you doing to do with it?
  2. Science Fiction:
It's your summer vacation and you’re walking on the beach close to the water's edge. All of a sudden, you look up to see the white billowy clouds turn dark and open up. A huge shiny domed spaceship slowly drops through the cloud opening and hovers over the ocean. In a matter of seconds, the ocean is sucked up into the spaceship exposing the ocean floor for as far as your eyes can see!
  3. Adventure:
You're a young deckhand on an old fishing vessel in the 1700s. Life on the high seas is hard! What is your destination? What adventures do you encounter on your voyage?
