"Florida Seafood For The Savvy Generation"
Feeling your best is one of the keys to enjoying life to the fullest. Your nutritional needs can vary with each stage in life and fulfilling those needs can contribute greatly to achieving your optimal quality of life. Making seafood a frequent part of your diet is an excellent way to accomplish this. It is a good source of high-quality protein and omega-3 fatty acids. And, compared to other meats, seafood is low in calories and cholesterol. “Florida Seafood for the Savvy Generation” is a publication created to provide the 55-and-above age group in-depth information about seafood health, nutrition, safe handling, purchasing and cooking tips.
The information in the booklet is a result of a recent survey the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) and the University of Florida conducted of the 55-and-above age group. The research provided insight to determine their attitudes and preferences about eating seafood. It was funded as a part of a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture, Federal-State Marketing Improvement Program.
The respondents to the survey listed health benefits as their top priority for eating seafood. They also indicated to eat seafood more frequently they needed to know more about how to purchase and prepare the various types of seafood. In response to these needs, the FDACS Bureau of Seafood and Aquaculture Marketing created the “Florida Seafood for the Savvy Generation” booklet. The booklet contains detailed information about seafood nutrition, purchasing and preparation. Easy-to-prepare seafood recipes for two are also included.
